A Fiji water taxi gives travellers a private, direct way to reach selected Mamanuca Island resorts, while a scheduled ferry follows a shared timetable and route. The best choice depends on your flight, resort, group size, luggage and how much flexibility you need.
Prepared by the local Rare Fiji Adventures transfer team in Nadi, Fiji. Updated August 2026.

Fiji water taxi or ferry: the quick answer
Choose a private water taxi when your group wants a boat reserved for you, a requested departure time, a direct resort transfer and help coordinating the journey from Nadi Airport. Choose a scheduled ferry when its published timetable and resort stops already match your travel plan and you are comfortable sharing the trip with other passengers.
| Planning point | Private Fiji water taxi | Scheduled ferry |
|---|---|---|
| Boat | Reserved for your group | Shared with other travellers |
| Departure | Requested around your plans, subject to confirmation | Fixed published timetable |
| Route | Direct to a selected resort | May include several resort stops |
| Airport connection | Private vehicle connection can be arranged | Separate connection normally required |
| Operating conditions | Subject to vessel availability, resort access and safe sea conditions | Subject to the operator schedule and operating conditions |
Where does the Rare Fiji Adventures water taxi depart?
Our private Mamanuca resort transfers depart from Naisoso Jetty in Nadi. This is different from many scheduled cruise and ferry services that use Port Denarau. Always check the departure point shown by your chosen operator before arranging a vehicle.
If you are arriving at Nadi International Airport, you can combine a private Nadi Airport ground transfer with the private Fiji water taxi. Share your flight details, passenger numbers and luggage so the mainland and boat portions can be planned together.
Which Mamanuca resorts can you reach?
The live booking form shows the selected resorts currently available for online booking. Options include Sheraton Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island, Tokoriki Island Resort, Castaway Island Resort, Vomo Island Resort, Plantation Island Resort, Musket Cove Island Resort, Lomani Island Resort, Likuliku Lagoon Resort, Malolo Island Resort, Tropica Island Resort, Six Senses Fiji, Mana Island Resort and Matamanoa Island Resort.
For a popular route, read our dedicated Sheraton Tokoriki transfer guide. For another island, a group larger than eight or a special itinerary, use the custom enquiry option on the water taxi page so the team can check the route before you pay.
When a private water taxi makes the most sense
- Your flight does not connect comfortably with a scheduled departure.
- You want the boat reserved for your family, couple or group.
- You prefer a direct trip instead of several resort stops.
- You are travelling with young children, extra luggage or special equipment that must be declared in advance.
- You need help joining a Nadi Airport or Denarau vehicle transfer with the boat journey.
- You are booking a return trip and want both directions planned together.
Important planning details
A preferred time is a request until the local team confirms the vessel, skipper, resort access and safe operating conditions. Sea conditions, tides, visibility and resort procedures can affect the final plan. Safety comes first, so a trip may need to be adjusted, delayed, rescheduled or cancelled when conditions are unsuitable.
Declare all suitcases, surfboards, wheelchairs, prams and oversized items before confirmation. Accurate information helps the team select the right boat capacity and avoid problems at departure.
How to book your Mamanuca transfer
- Open the Fiji Island Resort Transfers booking page.
- Select your resort, direction, travel date, preferred time and group size.
- Add a mainland pickup from Nadi Airport, Denarau or another available point when required.
- Review the fare and submit the booking or custom request.
- Wait for the team to confirm operating details and the final meeting point.
